Isaiah Austin is the 7 1 basketball center for Baylor University - TopicsExpress

Isaiah Austin is the 7 1 basketball center for Baylor University in Waco, Texas. The sophomore standout came to college as one of the top 10 prospects in the country and now aspires to play in the NBA. Until recently, only a few people knew that Austin could only see out of one eye. While playing baseball with some friends when he was 12, an errant throw hit him in the eye. Initially he didnt have any vision problems but his retina was compromised. Two years later in middle school, his retina tore after he made a routine dunk in pregame warm-ups. Three surgeries over the next several months could not stop the inevitable and he lost all sight from that eye. Fearing his basketball career would end before it really got started, Austin became despondent over his dashed future dreams. At that point his mother challenged him with a bold statement. She said, You can make it your excuse, or you can make it your story. The star player embraced the challenge and adapted by learning to rapidly swivel his head while constantly rotating his body for a full range of sight. NBA scouts think he has a shot at the pros. We all have deficits that could hold us back, so we must decide if those issues will be our excuse or our story.
