Isha Amrute is a very special young woman. On Saturday she had her head shaved as a fundraising event for the Leukaemia and Blood Cancer Society. Her long hair will become a wig for a patient undergoing chemotherapy. She aims to raise $5000 for research and help for cancer patients. Having her head shaved also expresses empathy for those who lose their hair during treatment. Most of us remember how self conscious we were as teenagers. It really is an act of courage and commitment for a teenage girl to sacrifice her beautiful hair for a cause like this. Isha also volunteers for St Johns and participates in Students Against Drunk Driving and Save Animals From Experimentation. Really good to see her commitment and that of her family and the Indian community on behalf of a better NZPA
