Islamic jihadists entered Grozny, the capital of Chechnya, and killed three police officers at a traffic control point. They then occupied a ten story building and a nearby svchool at the city’s center. Six of the gunmen were killed by security officers inside the building, which was gutted by fire that spread to a nearby market, it said. Ten police officers were killed and 28 more were wounded. at least nine insurgents were killed in the fighting. Rumors have swirled that the attackers were linked to the Islamic State death cult, after Chechen ISIS fighters in Iraq and Syria threatened Russia as the next target.
