Island buffs will swoon over the story of Tetiaroa, part of the Society Islands of French Polynesia. When Marlon Brando was scouting for locations for Mutiny of the Bounty, he discovered the sandy atoll, once a vacation spot for Polynesian royalty. He would eventually purchase it in 1966. Following his death, his estate struck a deal with an award-winning hotel operation to create The Brando, an exclusive eco-resort scheduled to open this summer.
