Issuing advice to cyclists is not a way to bring about safe cycling for all. It was because Boris responded to deaths by issuing advice to cyclists, when he himself was most directly responsible for the conditions they faced, that I got furious with Boris -it was an obvious attempt to distract attention from his own failure in his duties. Thats why I got cross and called it #victimblaming : Boris immediate response was to blame anyone-but-himself. But when sw19cam & cyclegaz etc post videos of cyclists going up the sides of lorries, they are neither responsible for Londons road layouts and paint, nor endorsing them. And they arent talking rot about helmets or hi-viz. They are making scary reminders of what not to do on streets that are un-necessarily dangerous, amplifying something entirely in line with advice issued by the London Cycling Campaign, and by BikeAbility instructors everywhere. That isnt the same thing as what Boris did, because in another context, about another matter, to entirely different ends. Your thoughts?
