It always saddens me whenever I hear that someone has fibromyalgia. Those of us who suffer from fibromyalgia have also had to suffer with friends, family, and medical professionals doubting our pain. (Some people are already questioning Mr. Freemans diagnosis) As this article mentions, Morgan Freemans public acknowledgement would lend an acceptance and seriousness that fibromyalgia sufferers may not have experienced previously. However, it is not Mr. Freemans responsibility to become the public face of fibromyalgia just because he happened to mention it in an interview. Dealing with this debilitating illness in private is challenging enough. I cannot imagine that being a representative for fibromyalgia sufferers would be a pleasant experience. Regardless of what Morgan Freeman decides, I can only regret his diagnosis and wish him luck in finding effective treatment for his symptoms.
