It appears that the thread from yesterday about Esker Dining Hall - TopicsExpress

It appears that the thread from yesterday about Esker Dining Hall has been taken down, unfortunately. I wanted to post an update to that thread, so here goes. I had a nice conversation this evening with the Brenda Hinspater, director of operations for Chartwell, the dining hall vendor. Brenda indicated that she was reaching out to parents who had expressed concerns on the former thread to inform them of an action plan she is implementing to address our concerns. She will be soliciting students for a focus group to gather direct feedback and suggestions for improvements to Esker. We as parents should encourage our kids to get involved and try to work towards solutions. There will be information posted both online as well as a paper notice at Esker soliciting students input. Ive already encouraged my son to get involved in the process. Brenda has also started an action plan with her managers to review their time/temperature charts, cook plans, and other items specific to food delivery, to determine whether there are problems needing correction. This process started today. I specifically mentioned the milk machine, which some parents had identified as a problem. It is supposed to be cleaned twice per day (mainly by student workers), and supervisors will be checking this at night. We discussed whether bacteria could be hiding in crevices in the machine, and whether perhaps some cleaning solution could be contaminating the milk. Brenda will be checking these possibilities as well. Finally, Brenda offered to engage a registered dietician as well as providers from the UWW health center as resources for students. We did not discuss that in detail, so perhaps that is a follow up item. To sum up, Im pleased that UWW/Chartwell seems amenable to discussing our concerns about Esker and addressing problems that exist. I hope that other parents have also been able to reach out and discuss their concerns as I have.
