It continues to amaze me that for 80 years this has not been an issue and only after the Prez speaks up for no reason and Costas opens his yap because the Prez spoke have a few Indian spokes people began a campaign. The debate over use of the Redskins name has picked up momentum in recent months as the tribe in upstate New York started to take out radio ads and speak more openly to the media about its objections. Not even in the Washington/Virginia area. Further, CEO Ray Halbritter is a representative of the Oneida Indian Nation, known as the Oneida Indian Nation Inc. It’s a company with gas stations, a hotel and a casino, a company recognized not by a tribal council, but by the United States government. Why? As of 2010, eight tribes have been recognized by the Commonwealth of Virginia that are related to the Powhatan paramountcy. The state also recognizes the Monacan Nation, the Nottoway, and the Cheroenhaka (Nottoway), who were never part of the paramountcy. Note that the Oneida were and are not in the area of Maryland and northern Virginia. So is Halbritter any different from the race baiters Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton? Probably not. He is suddenly loud and visible because he will make a buck or two with this protest.
