It has been a difficult few days with the news of friend, roommate, and classmate Steve Meadors passing. Steve was one of those rare people that whatever your station or standing in life, he made you feel as if you were the most important person he knew. I loved watching him at our MHS - Madison, TN Class of 73 40th reunion this past August. He was all over the room laughing and reminiscing with everyone. I remember our Freshman year at MTSU he lived with Richard Langford from Stratford High in Nashville and introduced us to him. Our Sophomore year Eddie Gaines found an apartment which would hold 4 of us. Steve, Eddie, Ricky Wheeler, and myself all lived in this apartment on SE Broad St. Ricky liked playing basketball better than class. Steve went home on the weekends to work at Nashville Memorial Hospital in the ER. Eddie and I were cheerleaders and pledged SAE. We had many good times in that place. Steve told us later that year he was dropping out of MTSU to attend EMS school. He wanted to be helping people asap and Pre-Med just was taking too long. That turned out to be a great decision for him as he retired from a successful career in the NFD. Years later a few classmates gathered at Gary and Janns house and it was recommended that we dress as we did in high school. None of us did until Steve walked in wearing his orange cap and gown from HS graduation. He also brought scrapbooks that each of us were in. I know we didnt see each other that often but I am going to miss you Steve. I plan on going to Woodys Steak House soon and having some fried mushrooms in your honor.
