It has been an emotional rollercoaster the last 24hrs . With coming home to my livingroom kitchen door (if you can call it that) destroyed :( x to then hear of the horror at Manchester Dogs home. (makes my door being destroyed pale in comparison u might think twice about giving your own dog up now) Upon hearing that the Warrington RPSCA Staff were on the way to open up the kennels to offer help if needed I drove to the otherside of Manchester to pick up Nicole End Bsl Derbyshire to arrive at Harpurhey to carnage. The closest streets (in a middle of an estate) were blocked by cars and people milling around with beds, baskets, food by the sacks to crates and blankets to the point they had to open the local church to store it in. We met people who had travelled from Liverpool as soon as they heard the news. RSPCA staff from animal care assistants to inspectors from branches across the borough and beyond in vans trying to get closer to help those dogs that were STILL trapped when we got there, dogs trust, Pennine pen and all the other animal welfare people also wanting to lend a hand. It was hard to hear the managers voice breaking as she thanked everyone there but urged them to go home because even though peoples heart was in the right place it was starting to impact on the rescue. Afterwards we spoke to her to let her know about Warrington RPSCA and she asked us to go along to Cheshire Dogs home to await further instructions along with the rest of the staff who were patiently waiting and trying to sort out places dogs could go (ie rooms like the cat playroom, isolations kennels ANY place that these poor traumatised dogs could rest their weary heads ). At half 2 this morning ten dogs were transported to the kennels, they still had ASH on their fur from the fire, red watery eyes from the smoke. I had to sit on the floor to coax one of them into the kennel as she was clearly petrified BUT so loving (A small staffy type dog probably one years old if that who shouldnt be even in there although none should be in there but one so young it was awful to see) and was heart wrenching to have to leave them when we did. 4am Nicole and I got home 5am I went to bed knowing I was probably only going to have 3 hours sleep at the most. I was two hours late for work (thanking the staff at Whiston hospital pharmacy where im currently working for being so understanding some places wouldnt have been as nice shall we say) which I wont get paid for being agency. Im finally home and will be going to bed in a minute im up to take Nicole to work tomorrow so I can see the dogs before they go back to Cheshire dogs home and to use the paddock before I go to Blackpool for lunch with a friend. So on that note Good night and again I am so PROUD to be part of the community that pulled together when it was MOST NEEDED xxxx (ive probably missed bits out but im tired sue me lol) xxx GOOD NIGHT xxx
