It hurts me to say this, but no more videos of The Witcher 2. I - TopicsExpress

It hurts me to say this, but no more videos of The Witcher 2. I really wanted to like this game, and I see why some people think it is a great game. It is improved drastically over the first game, fixing the user interface for the most part, primarily due to the inclusion of controller/gamepad support. The visuals are updated, and so is the skill tree for leveling up. The game is still left with two flaws that just ended it for me. The first flaw is the combat system remaining flawed. If you happen upon more than two or three enemies at once, then you will die. At least that is what continually happened to me. Having to the change stances for different enemies was taken out in this game, thankfully. And you still have to switch between the steel and silver swords depending on the monster, which is okay. But once a horde of enemies falls upon my character, it is over. Unlike in the previous game, my character was able to continue attacking his foes while being slashed from behind, but the clusters of enemies continuously resulted in my death regardless of my actions. I feel as though the game expects me to set traps and lead them into their deaths until only one or two remain. I am supposed to be a powerful witcher, with superhuman strength, but I dont feel that way. And by the time a group of enemies is cleared, and I would begin to pick up the items they left, more enemies would appear. The other equally frustrating aspect of the game came from the quest waypoint system and map details...or lack thereof. I know I am probably just spoiled but I like the game to give me a waypoint to exactly where I need to go or do. Or at least enough information to get me in the somewhat general direction. To many of the quests gave little information, and resulted in my poor character running around town talking to everyone, and then running in the forest in circles until happening upon whatever I was supposed to be doing. The map does not lend itself to actually serving much use. Rather than discovering the various shops and persons of interest through exploration and then marking them on the map, you are left with a map that uses the same symbol for shops, regardless of what the shops actually sell. So I was left with having to remember where a particular character or shop was at. I was really excited about the upcoming installment in the series, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, but no it appears that my excitement was probably in undue haste. I though that if I played the first two games and got some of the lore I would be ready for undertaking the upcoming game, but no while I hope optimistically the third game fixes all of the underlying issues and improves all the series as a whole, I just dont trust it until I see it for myself. Now, I will focus on playing a different game. I had copies of the Black & White games back years ago but never had a computer that could play them and got rid of them. My wife ordered a copy of Black & White 2, so I am going to see if I can get that to work. If it does work, then you should see some videos of that very soon.
