It is 3:30 am and I am wide awake. Yesterday was an upsetting but not an unexpected day. Andy had a total of 75 combined rehab visits. Combined means that Pt, OT and Speech count as one visit. We were informed that he has 7 combined visits left. On top of that information Andy’s health insurance expires from Lowes around November 10. COBRA will be close to 1200 a month, and it does not cover any rehab visits. That is 1200 a month and COBRA is good for 18 months. Social Security Disability has told us as of September 20, Andy was still at Level 1, the very beginning of the process and he has NOT been assigned a case worker it could take up to a year before a decision is made if he is eligible for disability. We applied for disability on May 30. I contacted my representative, Congressman Frank Wolf (R), and his office confirmed that if the Affordable Care Act is thrown out –Andy would have a problem seeking private insurance as he would then be classified as having pre-condition. I truly do NOT want to hear any Democrat, Republican, Liberal, Conservative, Progressive and NOT any Tea Party ideas NOT NOW. I am venting, please give me the floor. I went on the government web site and if I enroll Andy in the most (GOLD) Affordable Care Act’s expensive plan, I would come no where near what OBRA will cost. This is just one family facing this, there are many more of us out there. Do we face possible financial ruin with 1200 a month COBRA premiums that will work for 18 months and then what do we do for Andy’s insurance? Andy is only 62, will be 63 in November. Again I am venting, no one has a true answer not a Republican, not a Democrat, no one, I just want you to know that people who are in the situation of needing health insurance are not lazy, not looking for a hand out, and Andy is one of them. Just wanted to put a face on someone who is in need of health insurance.
