It is appropriate that this Report should open with a tribute to John McCosh whose death November 6, 1940 brought to a close 45 years of faithful service as Superintendent of Oak Hill Cemetery. His strong loyalty to the cemetery was properly balanced by a just regard for the lot-owning public. It would be doing the memory of Mr. McCosh an injustice to say that there never was a complaint from the public. In my 25 years of active association with him the complaints were few and far between, and upon investigation every one of these criticisms were found to reflect credit, and in no case disrespect, on Mr. McCosh. The cemetery, its management and its public were fortunate in having the services of such a man for so many years. As you know, Mr. McCosh’s son Richard who since 1937 had carried on the active duties of Superintendent for his father, last summer expressed a desire to attend college. He and his mother, who shared her husband’s loyalty and interest in the cemetery are now making there home in Denver Colorado with Mrs. McCosh’s oldest son, Stanley, thus bringing to a close the long and faithful connection of the McCosh family and the cemetery.
