It is believed that there are four different temperaments attributed to the pet African Pygmy Hedgehog Snugglers These are the hoggies that like to be held with some curling up into your neck and others into your lap or the crook of your arm. These hedgehogs are usually calm and content to be held quietly and it is more than likely you will be able to pick these up without them raising their quills. Scaredy Cats Whilst these hedgehogs are more than happy to unball, be held or explore, the slightese thing is likely to scare them and they will snap back up into a ball at the tiniest noise or movement. These hedgehogs may need a lot of patience and understanding and possibly in time will become a runner or a snuggler though they are likely to retain the high-strung tendency. Runners As you would imagine, these are the ones that will not sit still - they like to run and run and never seem to stop, if you try and hold them they are likely to squirm and wriggle so that you will put them down. The will do really well with lots of things to climb on and under and lots of room to play and explore. They are prone to using you as a climbing frame and also may well sample your hair. Really fun to watch as they stay busy for the majority of the time. Hermits As much as we would like to think we will not come across a hermit hog, some just like being grumpy and try to hide all the time, no matter what you try and do. They may be out and about comfortable but are more likely to run and hide the moment they notice you are about. At times they can bite just to let you know that they do not like being handled. They tend to have a fesity and fun spirit but it takes a whole heap of patience and understanding to learn how you would like them to behave. They are less likely to see out your company but in time, may learn to tolerate you.
