It is going to be a cold night for Southern Arizona (in the 20s) - TopicsExpress

It is going to be a cold night for Southern Arizona (in the 20s) so make sure your horses (and other animals) have a good place to rest. And in the am, dont forget to check their water for ice! During the winter time is smart to give your horses the alfalfa at night (if you are feeding alfalfa), helps with the warmth. AND, extra weight on a horse is not a bad thing during the wintertime, they need it for the cold nights! Horses that have less of a coat, older horses or horses that have lower body scores may need blankets on cold nights. Most horses are fine with the coat they develop naturally for the wintertime. Either way, sometimes just having a place that breaks the wind is good for them, they usually know when to get under shelter when it is necessary. Hope you all stay warm and happy during the holidays!
