It is interesting how some of us Muslims tend to look at the Seerah at a very linear way - we are in post Medina period. Case in point, I personally find much guidance for the appropriate Islamic response to issues such as Palestine and the establishment of the state in the Meccan period - non-violent resistance, no use of violence in establishment of the state of Medina. From this view point, the Islamic response to Israeli atrocities is not rockets, or mortars or bombs but non-violent resistence. There seems to be great wisdom in the Prophets approach - prohibition on violence in the face of immoral attack on ones life and limb from an oppressor state. The Prophet did not attack the Quraish through violence. Any violence without state seems impotent in the end - is not the Meccan years an example to follow rather than ignore? A way to achieve an unquestionable moral high ground? A way to obtain that which is sought? Zafer Iqbal, Colin Turner - your thoughts?
