It is judicial outcomes, such as this, that empower law enforcement with the entitlement to assassinate in the street. The post 9/11 hero worship of police as man-gods, omnipotent and infallible, color the judgment of courts across the nation. The persistent populating of police departments, over the last decade, with trained and testosterone driven combat soldiers from the Oil Wars in the middle east and the financial, material, and philosophical flood poured on to municipal police departments, courtesy of the Department of Homeland Security have created a prototypical cop that will choose force over diffusion and murder over due process. The killings of citizens by law enforcement are reaching across the nation in epidemic proportions. The searches for justice for victims and accountability from our public servants are being pursued on a local and regional basis. Now is the time for a national movement. The pain and heartache of victims families is real and very personal. While it may be indelicate to ask that they go beyond their search for justice and fight this cancer nationally, what hurts one of us hurts us all. No longer is any one group or region immune to to the brutal street justice of the police. sc
