It is with a heavy heart that I post this today. Yesterday ended our foaling season for 2014, with the stillborn birth of a beautiful little black and white filly, born to our 3 year old Katie. The placenta separated inside the mare, causing the foal to die from lack of oxygen. Our vet said this is called a red birth. Hopefully, we will never see this again in my time of having ponies! This is the first pony foal I have ever lost at full term, and it really hurts. I know that it is the cost of having animals, but it doesnt really sink in until it actually happens. I feel so bad for Katie, as she doesnt understand why her baby was taken away. All I can do is give her extra attention, and pray that next year will be a whole new chapter. I thank God for the 8 beautiful foals he gave us for this year, and I take comfort in knowing that some little angel needed that new baby in Heaven.
