It is with great enthusiasm that we announce a host of exciting developments, including a change in the name of Bergen County Community Action Partnership, Inc. Effective immediately, we will be known as GREATER BERGEN COMMUNITY ACTION, INC. This name change reflects the expansion of this Community Action Agency’s footprint into new communities, and the creation of new community partnerships. Our new logo includes the phrase “Broadening Horizons,” which reflects the agency’s commitment to serve a wider constituency in new and creative ways. Consider that recently … • The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services announced that Greater Bergen is the awardee that will operate the Head Start and Early Head Start Programs in the City of Paterson and Borough of Prospect Park, NJ starting July 1, 2013. • Greater Bergen Community Action-sponsored 1st Bergen Federal Credit Union is entering into partnerships with the NJ Community Development Corporation and the United Missionary Baptist Convention of NJ, and others, to expand affordable banking opportunities to thousands who live in economically distressed communities in neighboring counties. • Community Housing in Partnership (Greater Bergen’s housing affiliate), has developed new housing in Jersey City and is pursuing development opportunities throughout North Jersey. • CAP Solar New Jersey LLC is installing and operating solar systems on 35 non-profit facilities throughout New Jersey and is involved in an expansion phase in New York City. • SAFER Home Improvement, (part of Greater Bergen’s Sandy relief efforts), is re-building homes and institutions in numerous North Jersey communities. • Greater Bergen has completed a merger with the Bergen County Housing Coalition, and will expand the critical tenant/landlord advocacy efforts of that organization into Passaic County. And so … the name Greater Bergen is intended to reflect the increasingly regional nature of our work. In the days and weeks ahead, we will be contacting our many funding and community partners in order to revise contracts, Memoranda of Understanding, affiliation agreements and other documents as may be necessary to reflect the name change. We will also circulate new e-mail addresses for our staff, including those who will join Greater Bergen from the Paterson Head Start. Over the summer, we will have a new website at greaterbergen.org that we will invite you to browse when complete. Please stay tuned!
