It is with the heaviest of hearts that I am writing this message. Our darling little bully Mollie died this morning at 9:30. We are absolutely heartbroken and devastated. She had only been with us for two weeks but what an impact she made. When we picked her up two weeks ago she was in a state health wise. Her skin had an awful yeast infection as did her ears. Her eyes were infected and she was underweight. However in spite of all this she had the most beautiful and her tail never stopped wagging. We took her to the vets the next day and she was prescribed antibiotics, steroids and malaseb shampoo for baths. A week later she was starting to look a different dog, her coat was getting better, her skin was now a lovely shade of pink not red and her ears and eyes were better. She really was the sweetest of dogs and every day her character was coming to the fore. She no longer cowed and flinched when you stroked her and she and Albie had started to be really good friends. She started to want a game with us as well and if you patted your lap she would jump on you and take hold of your hand with her lovely soft mouth. Never ever putting any pressure on. She loved to lay back in your arms like a baby and would soon be asleep and snoring like a pig. Last week however she had what would appear to be a mild seizure and wet herself. We were obviously worried and having spoken to bulldog people they said she had probably got too hot and over excited. She was ok for the next few days and we assumed it was a one off. However yesterday morning she had two of these episodes. One where she wet and one where she didnt. She already had an appointment at the vet so we obviously mentioned this. The vet said she did not think it was epilepsy but more likely heart related. A cardiologist examined her and diagnosed an irregular heart beat. Apparently if the heart misses a beat it deprives the brain of oxygen and this is why she fainted. She was booked in for heart xrays and an ECG. This morning she had a very slight episode but was fine otherwise. She was playing with Albie and lording it on the sofa as usual. She shared my toast with me and as she and the gang had had most of it I decided to make some more. She followed me into the kitchen as she always did, just in case I dropped food, and then unlike her walked back out the kitchen and over to Ray on the sofa. She took hold of his hand and collapsed. Sadly this episode was a bigger one than the rest and she didnt come out of it. Despite the best efforts of Ray to get her heart beating she died. Obviously her heart was in a much worse state than we knew. We are devastated. She was doing so well and we were looking forward to doing so much with her. What makes it even worse is that this has happened in less than two months of losing our lovely boy Jackson. We are asking ourselves what we have done to deserve this?. We only want to do the best by our dogs and life cruelly does this to us. Mollie your time with us was short but very sweet. We loved you with all our hearts. We miss you and will never forget you my lovely little squidgy faced angel. Have fun and run free over the bridge... We will be together again... Hugs and kisses from your heartbroken dads xxxxxxx
