It may be just me, but I got the feeling when seeing Edwin - TopicsExpress

It may be just me, but I got the feeling when seeing Edwin Lacierda live on TV narrating how Napoles surrendered to the President, that he was reading from a script. His notes were meticulous down to the exact time of events but he was still prompted from backstage from time to time. His narration started when he saw on TV the lawyer of Napoles, Atty Lorna Kapunan, saying that Napoles was ready to surrender. I got suspicious when he mentioned that he could not recall whether it was he or Kapunan who initiated their first contact, but later corrected himself that it was he, maybe realizing that it would be absurd that Kapunan will call him so that he could ask her whether what he saw on TV was true. When he was describing their meeting with Napoles at the Heritage Park, he seems to be clueless that the meeting place was a cemetery until a reporter asked him if he was not afraid going to a cemetery at night. It really got lame when he said that sorry, he was not from that place and that he only learned that Heritage Park was a cemetery when they got there. He took extra effort in emphasizing that this was not the first time that fugitives surrendered to a president, but this fell flat when those who surrendered so many years ago were considered by many as patriots during those times. Napoles would hardly be categorized as a patriot. He also had difficulty in explaining why the President had to go to Crame, except to say that it was a spur of the moment thing, that the President was really concerned for the safety of Napoles. I thought then that DILG Secretary Roxas and PNP Chief Purisima should have resigned for the President could not even trust them to safely conduct Napoles from Malacanang to Camp Crame. A few days after seeing Lacierda live on TV, I really got paranoid when I saw this. But then again it was just me. - Eliseo Rio Jr.
