It may make a great headline to pledge a $100M fund to upgrade sporting facilities, but sporting facilities are not a necessity of life. Items all 3 parties should be promoting is upgrading water quality in the smaller Towns who receive through their mains water supply regulated untreated bore water from their water suppliers, water that comes with a notice issued yearly that the water we are selling you with the blessing of the state government is Unfit for Human Consumption. The water is also delivered through some of the oldest water mains in Victoria. Mains pipes which are 60+ years of age and contain some form of Asbestos Lining. It may be a nice gesture to say we will upgrade the Junction Oval, or have AFL games played in Ballarat, or even sink a few hundreds of thousands into a community football or cricket venue, but the first role of government is to ensure that the health of the people is looked after and supplying good quality drinking water to towns with regulated drinking water should be the first item of importance for any government. It appears from the lack of will of major political parties that the state of Victoria ends at the boundaries of the Melbourne Metropolitan Region, anywhere outside of this area is only worth lipservice for policies of government, not a priority.
