It occurred to me tonight, after viewing so many of your older, lovely family photos, especially old Christmas pictures on Facebook, that we are doing a great dis-service to ourselves and future generations. We all have a family-box somewhere with dozens of old photos...black and whites of our parents when they were young and in love, Grandparents sitting around a table with a beer bottle or two, Polaroids of birthday parties, graduations and pool or beach parties. But today, with phone-cameras making it so easy to take great pictures with little skill, and no need for a photo-lab to process and print, we have abandoned this great tradition of creating biographies through photography. 9 out of the 10 pictures we take are of OURSELVES, with little or no regard for our surroundings.or other people. Not to mention pictures of our food! In 25 years or less, when youre sitting around with the next generation of your family and they express curiosity about your life, what will you show them? My resolution for the New Year is to take one simple photo a day that captures our LIFE. An image of a story, great or small, that one day me and my family can look upon and laugh, cry or ponder. Its embarrassing that it will take effort...our elders were great at doing this as a part of family life. Please join me. (pics below are random examples, and not mine or my family.)
