It occurred to me, while replying to a post on a local forum, that I am now pretty much fully a recreational shooter. I shoot almost entirely for the social aspect of getting together outdoors with friends. to be sure, that comes with elements of gaming in that I want to beat my friends. But its not pure gaming in that I dont care to beat the whole field, or travel to regional matches to find new people to beat, etc. Nor am I looking to move from a 4th place finish to a 3rd place finish by buying a new trigger or optic. it also comes with elements of tactical as I am of the belief that there is very little difference in the fundamentals that must be maintained between gaming and ninja-ing. And I find that simply staying connected with the shooting community on some level keeps me reminded of the most important aspects of survival, awareness and health. I have also spent enough time doing this to be confident that my abilities are more than sufficient enough to survive all but the truly most sentinel of events, and every piece of equipment that I own if more than up to the task as well, from guns, to holsters, to knives, to rifles. I am, interestingly, the happiest shooter I have ever been. Secure in my skillset(s) and gear no matter the application, enjoying simply being in a field with friends regardless of whether training or competing, and with enough experience to pretty much be able to just look at a piece of gear or a technique and know if its worth a shit, or at least worth trying.
