It probably seems strange to people today to consider that the universe has four macroscopic space dimensions but the fourth dimension is purely electromagnetic, and that electromagnetism is not U(1)-invariant and the difference from U(1) invariance hides enormous parts of objective phenomena but I claim this is the actual case. This is the deep structure of the universe that provides the platform for the next evolutionary step for humanity. It is the step that has haunted physics for the entirety of the twentieth century. It is a step confidently pointed at by artists like Andrei Tarkovsky in Stalker and Solaris, by Stanley Kubrick in 2001: A Space Odyssey as ultra-mysterious. The S4 picture provides a concrete mathematical model to approach this realm.
