It seems entirely reasonable to say that the drive for independence should continue - given that 45% voted for it. But how would we YES voters feel if we had won the referendum with a 55% vote, only to discover that the Labour, Conservative and Lib Dem parties were continuing to campaign for the Union? I think we have to be careful not to give the impression that we are refusing to accept the majority view of the electorate. That wont help the independence campaign in the long term - it runs the risk of seriously antagonising potential supporters. Im delighted that the SNP is getting thousands of new members, but the Party needs to think calmly and strategically about how to proceed in the next months.
