It seems that I am, when all said and done, getting older which is a bit of a pain the arse. I have resisted the need to get glasses for he last 5 years, however it does seem that I will have to give in and visit Specsavers and avail myself of the optometric professional services. Glasses will not be a new experience for me as many many years ago a misguided teacher felt that the reason I was not doing well was because I could not see the blackboard. Ah yes the 60s were full of such optimism and almost totally devoid of educational cynicism. I can categorically state now the reason was not lack of visual acuity it was the fact that I was hemmed in by lassies, lassies with pig-tails that needed to be pulled and school bags that just had to be explored by the class pet gerbil, rat, rabbit and any slugs foolish enough to have wandered across my path that morning. I did have a minor astigmatism, which caused and indeed still causes me no problem at all. The fact that it annoys Val when I look sideways and my left eye bounces around like a 5 year old on a spacehopper on a smartie(tm) sugar rush has nothing to do with the fact that I have lived with quite happily for 50+ years ... honestly ... hand on heart. So now to the crux, what sort of glasses would suit me? I find myself drawn to those wee half moon glasses that I can balance on the end of the McDonagh Nose and peer at the world in the manner of some learned professor, on the other hand do they REALLY go with cargo pants and hiking boots? I could on the other hand go the full Edna Everage which a hint of Elton John, certainly my chums would not be in the least surprised by that. I had a brief gander in the Specsaver windows and they are devoid of cool glasses for a gent like myself, I think I may have to design my own frames
