It seems that when it rains it really pours on us! As some of you know my husband was diagnosed with throat cancer on Thursday. It is a tumor on the right side of his neck, very close to the carotid artery, therefore it cannot be surgically removed. Because of all the nerve endings in the throat all being affected by the pressure of the growing tumor, Kim is in a huge amount of pain. They are trying to get a handle on the pain with medication, and so far, it has went from a 8-9 to a 7-8 on the pain scale. It also is making it very difficult for Kim to eat, so they have prescribed 6 ensures a day.. they want him to try to get at least 1500 calories up to 2000. He has an exploratory scope of his entire head to stomach along with biopsying the tumor in his neck to see what kind of cancer and how aggressive the cancer is. the doctor said this is cancer and it is bad, but with radiation and chemotherapy you have a way better than 50% chance survival. After that on the following Thursday we will have a referral and appointments with the oncology team at Mayo. After that we fight the cancer battle. I just want everyone to know how much Kim and I have appreciate the phone calls, facebook messages, distance Reiki and prayers that are going up to whatever God you are all praying to.. Kim and I are not religious, we are spiritual and believe that these prayers work because of the energy put behind the words.
