It takes quite a while for an animal to recover and gain its trust after being abused especially for very long time. Some recover fully, some recover 50% and some just dont ... It is expected to have flashbacks and unexpected hissy fits especially when the experiences are too traumatic ... Same goes for humans ... It takes loads of dedication, love, comfort, patience and commitment to create a condition and environment that will not remind them of their unfortunate experiences....
