It took me a min to find this but anyone who fishes the Oak up at the dam . Should read this . It is a posting on another site by Captains Cove . Fall Salmon Fisherman Please Take Note: New Site Rules at Waterport Dam As you may know, the famous Oak Orchard River/Waterport “dam” area is located on private land owned by the Brookfield Renewable Power Company (power company). This land includes the powerhouse area on the turbine channel, the overflow channel bank side areas extending downstream, and the turbine channel bank side areas extending downstream to the Oak Orchard River Public Fishing Access Area. An incident this past fall (2013) where two fishermen fell in the water, and other factors, are likely responsible for the power companys new site rules. These new site rules are for the public’s safety and they are an alternative to not being allowed access for fishing on their privately held lands. The new site rules include but may not be limited to, restricted wading areas on both sides of the turbine channel at the powerhouse, exclusion for wading or water entry on the far side or west side of the turbine channel at the powerhouse, exclusion from some area below the falls on the overflow channel, a PFD required zone on the overflow channel and a PFD required zone extending downstream on the turbine channel to the Oak Orchard River Public Fishing Access Area. Anglers fishing at the Waterport dam area are reminded to follow all site rules and user requirements and warnings, to not go beyond or wade past restricted areas, and to obey all instructions from site or security personnel. Those few who might choose to not obey site rules could jeopardize the good and respectful actions of most anglers who enjoy access for fishing provided by the power company on their privately held lands. For anglers accessing Brookfield PFD required zones, PFDs will be available for purchase at several local area tackle shops. If you have any concerns or comments about the new site rules you should contact...
