It was George Orwell who made the useful observation that any ruling class and its associated power structure that can control and/or manipulate the meaning of language can control and/or manipulate all human thought. As the bible so correctly states the case- In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God. (And the Word was God or at least the breath of The Ancient of Ancients.) It was the human ability to invent and use language that jump started the human mind and gave us the ability to think and to use the kind of abstract reasoning that has since made higher thought and thus culture possible. Language is the natural software that the mind runs on. Any attempt to debase the meaning of language will debase and perhaps destroy all the higher cognitive human powers of mind that we take for granted and that make civilization possible. The dumbing down of the human race may make the management of the human herd an easier prospect for the would be global power structure that owns and controls capital (which is the congealed labor power of countless generations of workers) but it destroys any real possibility for offering to the power structure and the global elite the key to their very own personal survival as humans as well. We seem to be living in a time where all sorts of dystopian futures seem to be possible and are good fare for such popular culture as expressed in such recent Hollywood films as The Hunger Games, Elysium, and many others that cash in an attempt to exploit public interest in this zeitguist of our time. Words do in fact have meaning but those meanings and the myriad languages that they are expressed in seem to change over time as any study of linguistics will show. The primary software that the human mind runs on is the product of 12 billion years of evolution. That realization in and of itself should inspire awe in the thoughtful. Unfortunately for the would be masters of the Universe who presently have their temporary HQ on Wall Street nothing can have a value that can not be turned into a commodity, mass produced and sold for a profit that naturally accrues for the investor class that in its turn further enslaves the working class through some of the very finest of threads and tendrils as the articles makes reference to. Attempting to stand in the way of 12 billion years of evolution to where we are now might seem foolish to those of us who are not drunk on the drug of power and dutiful worshipers of the power principle that is better known is some quarters as the law of the jungle but evolution does have its purpose that can indeed be thought of as Divine. The Word has also been referred to as the Logos for obvious reasons such as those stated above. According to some words are symbols or rather signs in that the word stands for something else. The science of semiotics is based upon this principle and as such may be the key to building a new generation of light speed computers that can either further liberate us or enslave us. All this as a result of having a voicebox, i.e. vocal cords that can be made to viberate so as to form words. In the beginning was the word!
