It was a great idea. The hotel in Albertinia is absolutely gorgeous, and has all the potential for being a wonderful place to spend a night or two, but somehow it didnt quite work. Thinking about it, I decided that the problem is that they save on every possible expenditure. The beds were just too small - not only for me. The duvets were just too small for the beds. There were no ashtrays out in the outside area for smokers. The lights were switched off everywhere where people were not, but that included the passages. The bathroom was adequate, but could have been much better. The breakfast was adequate, but nothing special - tinned fruit for the fruit salad, one tin only, flavoured yoghurt - one flavour only. One spoon of coffee too few in the coffee filter machine thingy. We discussed how it could be turned into a destination, trophy hotel on the way back, and with fresh ideas and not a whole lot of money, it could rock. The making of the trip was most definitely the roosterkoek at Buffeljags - but I wrote about that already.
