It was a pleasure to attend Secretary of Education Arne Duncan’s speech today at Seaton Elementary School here in Washington, DC. He spoke of public education being the great equalizer in our society, and of how this is the civil rights issue of our era. I could not agree more – reauthorizing the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) is not just a moral imperative; it’s an economic one as well. ESEA re-authorization will allow school districts across the country to make meaningful progress to ensure access to high-quality education, and guarantee opportunities for all of our children.
