It was another beautiful Saturday evening in Square Islands Labrador the year was 1971. The old survey ship Maxwell was hove too in old Square Islands Harbour, she was white in colour about one hundred feet in length , she was charting the waters around Square Islands that summer, my father and mother was gone to Gillberts River in my fathers boat called the Field and Stream,a 35 foot cruiser with a twenty Hp. Calvin Diesel engine for power. My mom wouldnt take me so I was all disappointed , but after Dad had left for Gilberts I heard my sister Marie had a dance planned in the old bunkhouse just up the hill from our little home, and sure enough that evening with only Marie home and orders my my mom to take good care of me,she had a party planned and the word went out theres a dance in Square Islands, that Saturday evening I saw the boats coming ,the Bursey Girls from Triangle , because Marie had sent a message by the salmon collector too let her cousins in Triangle know about the dance , Dad and mom was gone so the dance was on,Harrison Campbell from Pinsents Arm she had lined up George Roberts for the music, uncle Walt Roberts son, he had a cassette player with a new tape he just received that day on the old Coastal boat called the Cabot Straight, which delivered the mail in those days, the tape was called CCR,and all the young men of the maxwell came ashore for the dance and all the young fellers from Square Islands was there, boy what a time, with songs like bad moon raising ringing through the rafters of that old bunkhouse that night, a good time was had by all, and as the dance wind down I saw,as the men left the old bunkhouse they would put their arms around one of the girls as they strolled around old Square Islands with the moon hanging high overhead, and that nigh when my sister and one of her cousins from Triangle got home from a stroll with one of the men from the ship Maxwell , I heard Marie say, pearl how come you went with that feller , she replied they were going fast and I couldnt wait any longer, thats the way it was as I remember it.
