It was more like an aerial assault on the shelter when Ariel - TopicsExpress

It was more like an aerial assault on the shelter when Ariel arrived! This approximately three-year-old Shepherd mix was dumped at the Lee County Animal Services shelter in North Carolina on March 24th. But she was not alone. Ariel arrived with her 10 puppies! This small, rural shelter only has 12 dog runs. They were already close to capacity before Ariel and her family showed up. It was more than they could handle. The shelter could only give Ariel and her pups until 8:00 the next morning to be pulled, or they would be euthanized. Through some quick teamwork, volunteers were able to line up a rescue, fosters, pullers and transport to get the puppies to safety. However, Ariels fate was still up in the air, and was at imminent risk of being euthanized. Some local volunteers contacted us to see if we would help with Ariel should she test heartworm positive. We agreed, and by doing so, All Breed Rescue in Vermont agreed to take Ariel as well as all the puppies! Ariels initial vetting on March 26th revealed that she was indeed heartworm positive. A few days later Ariel came down with parvovirus. Following her recovery, the vet decided that the slow kill heartworm treatment would be best for Ariel, which she has now begun. Ariels foster mom, Johanna, raves about Ariel and says, Shes a very sweet dog!
