It was slow-going for many drivers on the H-1 Freeway in town on Sunday. Cars traveling in the westbound direction near the Ward Avenue overpass were inching along. So what caused all of this backup? The road work on Vineyard Boulevard may have been to blame. Lanes in both directions were closed from Queen Emma Street to Miller Street for re-paving. There were also partial closures of the Pali Highway off-ramp, Punchbowl on-ramp, and the Kalihi on-ramp — all on the H-1 Freeway in the westbound direction. More closures are on the way. On Sunday night, there will be a full freeway closure. It’s all part of the H-1 Rehab Project. All lanes, eastbound and westbound, will be closed from Likelike Highway to Ward Avenue from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. from Monday through Thursday. Also happening this week — lanes closures on Kamehameha Highway in Aiea. It’s part of the Honolulu Rail Transit Project. All eastbound lanes of Kamehameha Highway between Pali Momi Street and Honomanu Street will be closed from Monday to Friday between 8 p.m. and 7 a.m. Just down the road in Pearl City, two lanes in both directions of Kamehameha Highway will also be closed between Waiawa Road and Waimano Home Road. That’s taking place Monday through Friday between 8 p.m. and 7 a.m
