It would help neither Eileen Murphy Holston ‘s reputation nor my own to tell you how long ago our academic relationship commenced. While more recent than when the university’s writing lab was still equipped with typewriters (yes, I date to when we inscribed media releases on stone tablets in cuneiform, then waited for visitors to climb Mt. Sinai to get them), suffice it to say that in Eileen’s day before I could start teaching writing I first had to teach MS-DOS. But we still convened in the shrine that is Strickler 309. Like Strickler 309, Eileen has experienced many technology upgrades in her career. After her start with me in an advertising copywriting class, she worked at an electronic publishing firm, then was a retail copywriter before joining Power. Eileen is now doing digital copywriting as one of Power Creative’s associate creative directors. She works at Power with other BigTNationalists, including Laura Guetig Ross and Allison Motley Purcell, who also went through the ring of writing fire in Strickler 309. One of Eileen big projects will drop next week at the 2015 International Builders Show in Las Vegas. She helped a cross-disciplinary team develop a Kinect-based game for Lennox heating and cooling to draw and engage show visitors at the company’s convention booth. Although she can’t share the Lennox game yet, Eileen indicated it will be a lot like the Louie Best of Show winner Power did for GE Energy, which let convention goers climb wind turbines and work inside them.
