Italian officials say the death toll from a fire on a ferry in the Adriatic Sea could rise, amid confusion over the exact number of people who were on the stricken ship. Eleven people are known to have died as a result of the fire on the Norman Atlantic ferry, with 427 confirmed rescued. As well as the ferry casualties, two Albanian seamen on a tugboat were killed as they attempted to attach a towline to the drifting ferry and it snapped, hitting both sailors. One was killed instantly and the other died of his injures as he was airlifted to hospital.
