Italian singer-songwriter Fabrizio De Andre wrote this protest song (music by Mauro Pagani) about the city of Sidon and the Israeli invasion of Lebanon in the 1980s. Here too, there were many Palestinian refugees who paid with their lives. He sad that he imagined, after the attack in 1982 by Sharons troops, a middle-aged Arab man, dirty, desperate, probably poor, who holds his own child in his arms, ground to pieces by the tracks of an armoured tank. It refers to the civil and cultural end of a small country: Lebanon, the Phoenician city, that was so important to Mediterranean civilization.
