Its Halloween and I wish more then anything that little Lucy - TopicsExpress

Its Halloween and I wish more then anything that little Lucy Landshark was wearing the shark costume I bought her and terrorizing the neighbor children who dared to knock on her front door. But she isnt, because with heavy hearts we said goodbye to Lucy last night. Lucy came into our care from the Animal Welfare League. She had advanced inoperable mammary cancer. She was incredibly cute and had so much attitude that most people couldnt even touch her without losing a finger. However, Bianca and I fell in love with her and both of us fostered her in the early days. But then she met Dr Nicole, one of our vets, and we were all but forgotten. Nicole was instantly in love with Lucy and wanted more then anything to adopt her. However, due to Nicoles own dog Biscuit and her behavioral quirks, Nicole wasnt able to offer Lucy a retirement home either. Lucy went into foster care with our friend Kellie, and an unexpected friendship immediately bloomed. I will never forget the night I took Lucy around and spent an hour sitting on their floor telling them all about Lucys personality. I neednt have worried, because Lucy met Grace, Kellies teenage daughter. Lucy and Grace became soulmates within hours. In Graces arms, the Lucy Landshark became Lucy Lamb. We knew that Lucy didnt have a long time left, but her spunk, attitude and zest for life meant we knew she wasnt ready to go yet. Although Kellie and her family were not looking to adopt a dog, I knew in my heart that separating Grace and Lucy was not an option. So, we all worked together to keep Lucy and Grace together. Kellie and Grace and their family gave Lucy the best months of her life. She was loved. She ate well. She played (in her ridiculously dysfunctional way that simply involved jumping on Kellies dogs back). She went to the park. She chased crows. She trained Kellie and Grace well, and Lucy got everything her little heart desired. Dr Nicole also made an incredible commitment to this special little dog. To allow Lucy to stay with Grace, Nicole committed to providing her ongoing veterinary care for no charge. However, she went further then that. Nicole paid for any medications Lucy needed out of her own pocket, and donated towards Lucys medical bills from her first days in care. Nicole loved Lucy as if she was her own dog. Lucy was loved. She was loved by Grace, Kellie and family. She was loved by Dr Nicole. She was loved by the CRQ team. Right now were devastated, drained and disheartened. But we know that we did everything we could for Lucy, and thanks to Grace, Kellie and Nicole, Lucy had the time of her life in her last months on earth.
