Its Sunday morning and I miss my son. Its my call weekend, and Kristin works, and the boy has been with the grandmas since Friday afternoon. Im amazed at the love one can feel for a child. Me. A sinful, carnal, self-centered, fallen, man, is capable of such emotions. The excitement I feel looking forward to seeing him again. To hear his stories of his adventures these last two days. To hear his random thoughts. Truly a delight to his father. Friday night at the Royals store in the stadium we found a Billy Butler Lego figure. Billy Butler is my sons favorite player. He yells his name every time he comes up. Drawn out like the announcer. Billllyyyyy Buttlerrrrrrrr! can be heard throughout the house. He also loves Legos. Plays them hours at a time. It seemed like a no brainer as we picked up the toy till we saw the price tag. 15 bucks for one figure. Well it came with a bat and helmet. But still. I told Kristin to put it back as we walked out. Way to expensive. Then we lingered by the door. Looking at each other we paused. Is a kids happiness worth 15 bucks? Both of us imagining inside the joy and excitement Westin would have when he saw this. And the hours of play with sounds radiating from the bedroom. We turned around and bought the silly thing. Its sitting on the shelf in the living room. Im anxiously awaiting his return to give it too him. How we delight to give good gifts to our children. Our Father speaks to this. He says if we who are evil know how to give good gifts to our kids, how much more can we trust that our Father in heaven delights in giving us the same. (Luke 11). Im not talking the prosperity gospel. Not money or any desire we throw out there. But He truly wants to give us what He knows will make us so happy. Happier then we have ever been. Forgiveness. Cleanness. A soul washed white. He wants to give us Himself. His Holy Spirit. Oh how he waits for us to return home so He can present this gift to us and watch our delight as we revel in it and enjoy it with childlike abandon. Remember that God is on our side. Those struggles and sins we hold on to thinking they are too powerful can be overcome. That weight we carry of dirty filthy unrepentant sins can be lifted. That long absence from peace can be done away with. With His power and help. He anxiously and excitedly waits to give His children His gift.....
