Its a little early to be talking about Halloween, but this dazzling dragonfly is called the Halloween Pennant. Its an uncommon find around North Chagrin so when someone brings in a photo of one, its a real treat! The Halloween pennant has been described to be similar to a butterfly. If your lucky to spot one, look for it perched at the tip of a weedy stalk, waving in the breeze like a (wait for it...) pennant. These odonates are able to fly in rain and strong winds and measure approximately 1.5 inches in size. Look also for the entirely orange-yellow wings with dark brown bands which hints at its namesake.
