Its a sad event but all that led up to the hostilities BROKEN Treaties were the fault of the Whites, the Settlers. Every treaty ever put to paper it seems was broken by Manifest Destiny steps that rolled over the indigenous tribes, and can you imagine if Lincoln had no response to 800 killed Americans? Imagine if Bush or Obama had no response to 800 Americans killed. There was obviously fault on both sides but when you make a pact to provide for Indian peoples you place on reservations, and then you treat that pact like it is some sort of handout, then dont be surprised. Also the nature of Indians in all the tribes leaves them seeing all bad moves and bad blood as having happened not a hundred or two hundred or three hundred years ago but YESTERDAY. Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee is a good example.
