Its a shame about Robin Williams. Such a polarizing figure. Like, really easy to hate, but also super... human. Like, his serious character in The Bird Cage is awesome. I think thats his best role. Hes not trying too hard, and he lets everyone else be the out-of-control one. I love him in that. He was always trying to capture weird gestures and expressions too, like beyond the manic improv cocaine mania, he had these very specific touches that made you feel like he was trying to get at something very specific and real. Feels also like a small connection to Old Jewish Hollywood is lost, too. Like, he wasnt that generation, but it was super clear he revered it, and he would reference it. He did a LOT of movies I couldnt stand, but there was something about him that got me early. I dont know if it was seeing Mork as a kid or doing Mrs. Doubtfire impressions with my friends, or what. I just saw him in an episode of Louie, and he was subdued and very good. Alas, Robin, and farewell.
