Its a weird confluence of events. Robin Williams performance in Dead Poets Society is the defining movie magic of my lifetime. The inspiration, day-seizing, poetry, difference a teacher can make, solidarity of friends, highs, lows, daring to speak back to misguided authority, importance of knowing when you need someone...this all came to us as adolescents, and then, like the Wellton boys (Neil, Todd, Knox, et. al.), Marcia Salomon and I traipsed through our teenage years (and beyond). Both that movie with its powerful message and Marcia with her powerful friendship have since been essential and significant parts of my life. Strange timing indeed, this passing of the captain and this celebration of life. To Marcia, who knows better than many how to seize the day and how to be a friend, the happiest of birthdays to you!
