Its almost a shame to say I am from Durham after what happened this afternoon around 3.30 PM! I was driving down Oro- Chico HWY heading West approx. 1/2 mile East of the Mid-Way. A truck and trailer pulled out in front of me about 200 ft ahead and went the opposite direction from the way I was going, while a car was behind him about 100 ft. I slowed down to about 35 during this time only to have a Brown & White Boxer run between the two vehicles and right dead center in front of me, The tires did not run over the dog, It knocked the dog to the center yellow line where it laid unconscious! I backed up and put my flashers on while right off the shoulder! No one else stopped. I walked up to the dog and it was still breathing but starting to regain conscious, It started to move but could not! The 1st thing I thought of was to call Durham Vet, Which I did and asked for Dr Lyman, I explained the situation and he came RIGHT OUT! I could not touch the dog but just kept talking to it. It took him only 10 minutes to arrive at the site, BUT within that 10 minutes 35 cars and trucks went by and NOT one stopped, Some still going over the posted speed limit. Yes I recognized some of the people, You Know Who You Are! I should post your names but I wont! Some of you slowed down just to look at the suffering dog in the middle of the road, It was enough for me to keep cars and trucks from hitting this dog. All the time I am thinking that this is somebodys pet and I cant do anything except to just keep talking to it. DR. Bill Lyman and helper arrived at the site with a stretcher and transported the dog back to the vets, I called later to find out how things were and they were still operating on the dog! To the owners I am so sorry! You have my name & number if you want to call, Dr Lyman and the Durham vet employees, Thank You for acting as fast as you did! To the people that did NOT stop, SHAME ON YOU for not wanting to get involved!
