Its another action packed weekend for all of the Blaze National League sides who all face St Mirren away from home. Yesterday it was the turn of the senior men, who have been struggling in recent weeks and were keen to get back to their winning ways which they showed at the beginning of the season. Last week the side struggled offensively shooting a poor percentage from the field but came out strong last night in Paisley. An impressive start from John Browne who had 8 perfect points going 4/4 to start the match. However, good execution in the pain for Saint Mirren gave them the slight advantage leading by 3 after one quarter. St Mirren looked to use Nick Collins as much as they could and inconsistent defence from Blaze allowed him to make a number of shots. He finished the half with 18 points and aided Saints to an 11 point half time lead (42-31). However, Blaze came out of the half time break with a spring in their step and looked strong as they cut away at St Mirrens 11 point lead. An impressive third quarter from Tomas Cicenas who contributed 12 points in the third helped Blaze to reduce the gap to 4 as the teams headed into the final quarter. Blaze continued to look strong as the fourth quarter progressed. The game remained close as the game entered the final stages. With a couple of missed opportunities in the final stages, St Mirrens Fraser Glass was sent to the free-throw line where he executed well all night and in the end, helped seal the match for Saint Mirren as they took this fixture 79-77. Despite the tough loss, there are plenty of positives to come from last nights game that the team will look to build upon in light of next weekends fixture against Glasgow Rocks. It will be the turn of both the U16 and U18 Men to make the journey to St Mirren on Sunday as the U16 men aim to continue their winning streak and the U18s will look to remain unbeaten.
