Its been a busy couple of days for Oklahoma on the recruiting front as Monday night brought their third 2014 verbal commitment in less than 48 hours. Junior college outside linebacker/defensive end Devante Bond become Oklahomas 18th verbal commitment in this 2014 class and one the Sooners have been working on for some time. Bond was originally a member of the 2013 class and a guy Tim Kish spent plenty of time trying to land last year, but ultimately Bond wound up signing with Miami. However, he never qualified academically to the point he could enroll and was forced to finish up his classwork and became a member of the 2014 class. Bond has been a dynamic pass rusher at the JUCO level and many expect him to be used in a similar type of role the one Oklahoma is currently using Eric Striker in. The idea of both he and Striker as outside linebackers/rush ends in in a 3-4 defense should have OU fans very, very excited. Bond has shown a unique ability to get after the quarterback which is always an invaluable asset for any defense. As a result of the academic issues, Bond is a two-for-two guy which basically means he wont have the luxury of a redshirt season. So Oklahoma will be expecting him to come in and contribute right away. And the fact he is expected to enroll in January, thus being in Norman to take part in spring practices, should only help to increase the odds of that happening. Bond held a number of offers, but ultimately chose the Sooners over former Big 12 rival Nebraska.
