Its been an interesting week ! Back history; for a number of years the neighbours around Bean Park Paris Ontario have been trying to get Brant County to restrict the commercial usage in the park (launch site). The amount of traffic, people etc. has gotten out of hand. About 3 weeks ago, the council decided to close the park to all commercial outfitters. This meant that we (drift boat guides) had no launch site and were effectively out of business on that stretch of river. We (drift boat guides) wrote letters to council and Monday had the opportunity to plead our case. Thankfully the neighbours had no objections to the drift boat guides, after sitting in two meetings, listening to all sides of the issue, and council having an emergency meeting on Tuesday, the council approved our use of the launch site. We still need to pay a fee (in my case two boats) and there are restrictions on the times and amount of usage, but we can launch there !! At this time Im waiting to hear from the county on when the permits will be available ?
