Its been three weeks since Raleighs transplant and Chris - TopicsExpress

Its been three weeks since Raleighs transplant and Chris life-changing donation, and both extraordinary men are recovering very well!!! For us, the last two weeks have been busy and full of even more answered prayers. Emory is our home away from home, with at least two visits a week for now, and I returned to work on Monday. Raleighs labs continued to get better and better, then we saw a slight rise in his creatinine (1.6 to 1.9) on Monday. We were told that the increase could be the result of a few different things - the increased dose of one of his anti-rejection medications, the beginnings of a rejection episode or dehydration. We suspected dehydration. Raleighs transplant changed everything...his health, body, lifestyle, diet and mindset. It was hard for him to believe and act on being told that he needed to go from drinking next to nothing to NEEDING to drink...A LOT. He drank the recommended amount of water (2-3 liters) Tuesday and Wednesday, and yesterdays labs were outstanding!!!! His creatinine was 1.52, and his potassium went from 5.2 to 4.4!!! Yes, water is now his newest best friend! :) We also met with the endocrinologist and came up with a different game plan for controlling his blood sugar. His diabetes was very well-conrolled prior to transplant, but the anti-rejection medications hes now taking elevate his blood sugar. Even after just a day and a half of his medication adjustments, his blood sugar is showing great improvement! :) :) Thank you all so much for your prayers and support for both Raleigh and Chris!!! We feel so, so blessed to know that we have some of the most caring and loving people weve ever known praying for us during our transplant journey. From our family to each of you, we could never thank you enough! I will continue to update, and we ask that you please continue to keep Raleigh, Chris and our families in your prayers. Please also pray for those awaiting a life-changing transplant and every person that has chosen to selflessly become a living donor!
